Free Sewing Classes London for Children and Teens
A safe place to learn, stitch and feel looked after
Our free sewing classes in London give disadvantaged children and teens aged 9 to 18 a creative skill and a small, caring group to learn it in. Each six-week course is free to families and funded in part by adult class fees. Places are limited, so a parent or guardian applies and then waits for Grace to confirm a place.

What young people can expect
- A safe, welcoming room and patient teaching from Grace.
- Hands-on time with sewing machines and tools, with help to use them safely.
- Projects that build practical skill and leave them with something finished to show.
- A small group, so each young person gets encouragement and attention.
The youth are not alone
Sewing gives young people a practical, creative activity with a result they can hold and feel proud of. In the Department for Education’s June 2025 survey, parents commonly said extracurricular activities helped children learn skills and build confidence.
Grace offers that kind of learning through sewing, in a group small enough for her to give each child time.
About the free classes
Free children’s sewing classes
Each course runs for six weeks, with one two-hour class a week. Young people learn practical sewing skills in a small, caring group, and Grace provides the equipment, tools and materials.
The course is for disadvantaged children and teens aged 9 to 18. If you are looking for sewing classes for teens, older teenagers join the same course as younger learners.
Adults can support the programme by booking one of our adult sewing classes, because a portion of each fee helps Grace run the children’s course.

How it works
Apply
A parent or guardian applies for a child or teen aged 9 to 18. Demand is high and places are limited, so an application is not yet a confirmed place.
Learn
Young people join a small, supportive group led by Grace, with equipment, tools and materials provided.
Grow
Across six weeks they learn fundamental sewing skills and complete hands-on work. The Education Endowment Foundation notes the value of creative skills in their own right, and its arts participation review reports wider benefits, including positive attitudes to learning and wellbeing.
Belong
Grace keeps the group calm and encouraging, with room for each young person to practise and be noticed.
What parents say
Thank you for having my daughter in your sewing classes. She is happy and singing your praises.
Fatima, Aleena’s mum
Hi aunty Grace, thank you for your time and patience teaching Calise how to sew. She says she enjoys the class and wants more.
Maxine, Calise’s mum
We teach the big ones to sew, so the little ones have a safe place to learn, stitch and feel looked after.
A 2024 DCMS youth survey found that 46% of young non-participants in art and music activities did not know of somewhere local to take part.
This programme gives families a named local option, and the teaching stays small and personal. Parents and guardians can apply for a place, and adults can support it by learning with Grace.
Supported by our community
Classes take place at Edmonton Green Library, 36-44 South Mall, London N9 0TN, as listed on the Enfield Council library page. Grace’s Sewing Studio CIC trades as London Sewing Courses and uses a portion of adult class fees to support this programme.
Common questions
Who can apply for the free sewing classes?
Disadvantaged children and teens aged 9 to 18 in the local community. A parent or guardian applies on the young person’s behalf.
Do families pay for the course or materials?
No. The six-week course is free to families, and Grace provides the equipment, tools, materials and teaching.
How do I apply for a place?
Use the Apply for a place button to contact Grace. Places are limited, so she confirms each one when a suitable place becomes available.
What will young people learn?
Fundamental sewing skills and how to use a sewing machine and tools safely. Over the six weeks they complete hands-on work they can feel proud of.
How large are the classes?
Small, so Grace can notice each learner and explain each step patiently.
Can I discuss my child’s individual needs?
Yes. Contact Grace before you apply, or before you accept a place, to explain your child’s needs. She can then talk through what the current course can reasonably accommodate.
How are the free classes funded?
A portion of fees from adult sewing courses helps fund the programme. Grace’s Sewing Studio is a community interest company, which must meet a community interest test under CIC Regulator guidance.
