Learn to sew with Grace at Edmonton Green Library in North London, in a small beginner class or a private lesson. A portion of every adult fee helps fund free sewing classes for local children.
New eight-week course
Grace starts from the basics and takes you through a sleeveless, button-front dress with a flared skirt. You need no sewing experience, and the fee covers fabric, patterns and use of a sewing machine.

The youth are not alone, neither are we
Grace leads our sewing classes in London and teaches at a patient, practical pace. In the 2025 Adult Participation in Learning Survey, 94% of recent learners identified at least one benefit, most often confidence and personal development. Grace’s Sewing Studio is a community interest company, which CIC Regulator guidance says must operate for community benefit, and a portion of adult class fees supports the free children’s programme.
Our courses
Beginners learn machine setup, stitches and simple construction. Private lessons help improvers with garment making at their own pace.

About the beginner class
One to one
For adults who know the basics and want help with garment making, fitting or a particular project. Lessons are arranged individually, so Grace can teach at your pace and you have no group syllabus to keep up with.
Private lesson details
Free, ages 9 to 18
Free six-week courses, one two-hour class a week, for disadvantaged children and teens aged 9 to 18. Young people learn practical sewing skills in a small, caring group, where they can build confidence and feel looked after.

Grace teaches a beginner class for people who are new to sewing or returning after a break. If you can already use a machine and want focused help with a garment or a harder technique, there are private improvers and advanced lessons. She also runs an eight-week dressmaking course in North London.
No. Machines, tools and basic materials are provided at beginner classes. For a private lesson, Grace talks through any materials your project needs before you meet.
